Our Story

Most studios begin with a focus on making work, but over time, something interesting started happening inside our studio.

Projects would begin as paintings or exhibitions, but they would quickly expand into much larger conversations, about human performance, systems and civilization and how culture and design evolve.

We realized that the studio itself was functioning like a small research environment. Each project became a way to explore bigger questions. A painting might explore symbolism and cultural memory. An exhibition might examine global sports as a dataset of human excellence. A collaboration might explore design, technology, or environmental systems.

Instead of trying to force these ideas into traditional categories, we embraced the studio as what it had naturally become a place where art, research, and experimentation intersect.

That realization is what led to the creation of Vanguard Projects, a studio designed not only to produce artwork, but to investigate the cultural and systems questions shaping the future.

about us

VANGUARD PROJECTS is an artist founded studio that evolved beyond producing standalone artworks into building project ecoystems, where each project begins as an inquiry into human systems (such as ecology, performance, technology, and culture) and expands into exhibitions, research, prototypes, collaborations, and venture-style initiatives that move from image to real-world impact. Operating as both a creative practice and a cultural laboratory, the studio works to bring together creators, athletes, scientists, engineers, and thinkers to prototype ideas that move from expression to validation to launch, resulting in products, partnerships, and scalable solutions. Through this model, collectors, partners, and institutions participate not just in acquiring art, but in shaping future-facing cultural infrastructure, supporting a portfolio of investigations designed to reimagine human environments and systems over the next generations in ways that are abundant, regenerative, and materially impactful.

THE STUDIO

Vanguard Projects is a studio that is actively working shape the future, a new way to work where ideas evolve into real-world prototypes and bold cultural ideas become tangible systems, experiences, and solutions. Our studio is based in North County Oceanside, but collaborates globally.

Explore our work as each body of work becomes a chapter in our larger worldview. The studio is grounded in a longer view: reimagining urban and ecological systems for the next 10 generations, designed to be abundant, resilient, and regenerative rather than extractive. We are currently focused on solving immediate, real-world constraints across energy, water, food, and materials, as well as expressive reimagining of systems and urban environments that no longer serve civilization and our larger earth ecosystem.

It was founded to both to develop works that promote experiences outside of our normal human experience and share that with the world in various capacities. The mission is centered around vanguardism, celebration, peace, sensuality, shared ancestry, participating in a citizen of the earth perspective - all from a positive proactive forward thinking light.

How it operates

Each investigation moves from concept to prototype to pilot, with a clear path to adoption or venture creation. By combining execution with long-term thinking, we aim to build a portfolio of solutions that can materially improve how people live, both now and into the future.

An investigation begins with a real world tension, either ecological, social, perceptual, or material. This inquiry is translated into form through exhibitions, objects, and environments that create cultural traction. From there, the work is tested in the world: collectors, collaborators, and domain experts engage with it, revealing where it holds, where it evolves, and where it wants to expand.

Select ideas move beyond the exhibition context into broader applications: new materials, functional objects, spatial systems, or strategic partnerships. In this way, the studio operates as both a site of authorship and a laboratory, where artistic intuition meets real-world constraint.

WHo its for

Our work is designed for people who are curious about the future and invested in shaping it. Art collectors and patrons interested in cultural ideas, institutions and museums interested in exploring the future of human environments and systems over the next generations, venture founders and technologists interested in culture as research, and curators and cultural thinkers wanting to work on impactful projects across disciplines.

About our founder and team

Ali Beletic is a multidisciplinary artist whose work examines the symbolic architectures that shape contemporary life. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, and design objects, her practice regularly expands beyond traditional exhibition formats into collaborations spanning fashion, collectible design, and experiential installations.

Her paintings are recognized for their use of raw mineral pigments, clay, neon, and gestural mark-making, combining elemental materials with synthetic light and post-industrial and punk reference points. Across mediums, Beletic frequently employs forms that are emblematic, symbols, motifs, vernacular objects, and archetypal forms as a means of reflecting on the juxtaposition of our shared human narrative and the current contemporary psyche.

Beletic’s work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Architectural Digest, NPR, New York Magazine, Vice, and IGNANT. Her work has been exhibited alongside artists including Pablo Picasso, Sol LeWitt, and Agnes Martin and engaged by modern hyper drive collectors attuned to cultural inflection points, such as Eva Chen and Jessica Wang.

She is building a studio that operates as both expedition and infrastructure beyond the confines of the art world and developing works that don’t just interpret the world, but actively participate in shaping it.

Ali has built a practice centered around the ideas of the conversation between the classic and the ancient and the the hyper-modern, throwing parties, and collaboration on a global scale. While the Vanguard Projects studio headquarters is based in North County San Diego, the studio is comprised of thinkers and artisans dedicated to marrying business with visionary and forward thinking creative solutions and expressions working across continents, in many fields and mediums, we are honored and excited to have collaborators across the globe. We are committed to sustainability and our mission of integrity, and visionary development.

Some organizations we donate to include: The Endangered Species Coalition, The Women’s Earth Alliance, The Nature Conservancy, The Earth Island Institute and UNICEF.
